Hands & Age Spots

Did you know that our Hands give away how old we really are??? We always look after our face with moisturiser and SPF but we always seem to miss out our Hands :(

People come to the Claudia McGloin Clinic with Age Spots on their Hands and they've no idea how they got them until we tell them - driving a car you are exposed from the suns rays coming through the windscreen, if you work in an office and have a desk by the window, you are exposed to the rays! Usually though, we just don't apply an SPF to our hands and the sun catches us all year round!

Help is at hand though because we can treat your Hands and get them back to tip top condition. We have several treatments and we can remove the Age Spots :)

Big lesson is to moisturise and apply SPF to your Hands daily. If you are washing dishes, wear rubber gloves and especially in winter protect your Hands with woolly gloves.

Treatments for Hands include:

* Skin Peels both Superficial & Medium TCA
* Skinboosters of Hyaluronic Acid
* Thermal Abrasion
* Advanced Diathermy
* PDO Threadlifts

There is something for everyone at the Claudia McGloin Clinic. Contact us for further details or to book a Skin Consultation.

Skin Reactions and Dracula PRP Therapy

Last year I decided to freshen up my tired Skin by doing a superficial Skin Peel. I'd done a Medium TCA Chemical Peel a few months previous, so I just needed to deeply exfoliate and remove the Dead Skin Cells that had built up as well as giving my Skin a Healthy Glow.

I'd used this Skin Peel several times on friends, family and patients and never had a problem. I did the Skin Peel and shortly afterwards noticed that I was red and the treated areas were getting itchy. I'd applied a Medical Barrier Cream to the areas to help soothe and calm the Skin but by morning I was so red and itchy with bumps under the Skin.

I called the company to check if there had previously been any adverse reactions and was told there wasn't so, it was just me! I had also done the same Skin Peel on my mother at the same time I did mine and she was fine so, definitely just me!

I was advised to apply Petroleum Jelly aka Vaseline to my Skin which I did but it made it worse! At this point my Skin was getting worse and burning - I looked like I'd had some serious Laser treatment and was burnt! It was steroid time but not before I did a Dracula PRP Therapy treatment on myself!

I managed to take my own blood which for me I thought was going to be tricky as my best veins are in my right arm and I'm right handed but I managed it no bother :) This has got to be a huge achievement for me! lol

After I spun my blood and separated my Plasma, I smothered my face in it...I had no problem injecting it but I thought it would only aggravate it especially as I was injecting myself and my face felt so tight and hot!

The results were amazing. Straight away it eased the itchiness and by the next day the redness and bumps had reduced significantly. The power of the Stem Cell...

The top picture is me with the red lumpy bumpy itchy skin...The middle picture is me straight after applying Dracula PRP Therapy and the last picture is me a few days after where my Skin has fully healed.

Dracula PRP Therapy is an amazing treatment that is 100% Safe & Natural and is exclusive at the Claudia McGloin Clinic.

Winter Skin

Winter Skin

Over the past couple of weeks it has certainly become much colder and I think it won't be long until Jack Frost makes an appearance or we see some snow! I don't know about you but the change in temperatures and those Arctic winds aren't doing my Skin any favours. For some reason this year, my Skin is misbehaving despite doing all the right things! I think this has to do with the fact we had lovely mild weather up until recently and the sudden plummet in temperatures hasn't helped and has contributed to Dehydrating Skin!

I've now had to change my moisturiser to a more intensive one and I've also been using a serum with Vitamin C to help keep my Skin in check! My Rosacea which only started to develop last year is more noticeable but I'm lucky that it's nowhere as bad as some of my patients who are suffering with Acne Rosacea. I'm happy to say after a week of intensive hydrating and moisturising my Skin is back on track!

I've been asked a lot recently about what Skin Care Products should be used in winter and if I've any tips for avoiding Dry Skin. I know you all want to maintain your glowing Skin so, I will share with you my top ten tips and hopefully they will do the trick for you!

One of the most common complaints I see at the clinic in winter months is Dry, Flaky and Itchy Skin. This is very common in winter especially as humidity is low. The electric and storage heaters are now switched on and the air con is still in use in some areas! We are going from warm to cold air and our Skin isn't liking it!

With all of this going on our Skin becomes Dehydrated and loses its flexibility and so becomes Dry, Flaky and Itchy. Moisturising will help but it sure isn't good when you're trying to apply your make up and your Skin is noticeably Flaky! I even bought a primer to see if that would help but it was no addition. I even went back to the make up counter to see if I was applying my make up and primer correctly. I was doing all correctly but it was just the Dry Skin that needed sorting!

For anyone suffering at the moment you need to get your Skin Hydrated and use the correct Skin Care regime before you'll see a difference. You will get there so be patient and stick to your Skin Care regime. This is just a normal occurrence in winter!

My Winter Skin tips for you are:

1. Go to see a Skin Specialist about your Skin. They will prescribe the correct Skin Care products for you.

2. Moisturise more than you did in the summer. You need to use a more intense moisturiser in winter. I would ensure that it is non comedomgenuic - one that doesn't block your Pores. An oil based moisturiser works very well. Don't over moisturise!

3. Ensure you are using a Night Cream that is oil based. Alpha Hydroxy Acids attract moisture which will give you more hydration.

4. Always remember to apply your Sun Screen. An SPF50! The UVA and UVB rays are still as strong as they were in the summer and you still need to protect your Skin.

5. Remember to use a hand cream and wear gloves to protect your hands. You can still get Age Spots in winter from the rays!

6. If you can get a humidifier. This will put moisture back into the air and try to combat the drying effect on your Skin.

7. Ensure you are still drinking enough water daily. 8 glasses or 2 litres per day! More will be required if you're sweating after exercise!

8. Have warm baths rather than hot baths. Make sure you moisturise afterwards. A good tip is using Baby Oil on your wet skin. I love the Johnson & Johnson Baby Gel with Camomile. Leaves my Skin feeling soft and is a nice treatment prior to a night out!

9. Don't forget your feet! Make sure you cream your feet. One of the things I badly miss from London is a proper pedicure where the dead, dry skin is shaved off your feet with a blade! I cannot find a beauty salon in Ireland that does this AND I won't do it myself as I have had a couple of mishaps!

I wasn't lucky enough to try the Foot cream in a sock from Penney's but I have heard that they were good. I did try another brand that was kindly given to me by my sister but it didn't remove any hard Skin. It did moisturise my feet and I think you could do this your self with a cotton sock and some body lotion if you're on a budget.

10. Try to avoid wet socks and gloves. There's nothing worse than sitting in wet clothes for hours on end! Your Skin won't be happy.

In winter I use the following Skin Care Products to keep my Skin Hydrated and Glowing.

* K Ceutic Intensive Moisturiser with SPF 50
* Hyal Ceutic Moisturiser
* Foamer 15
* Cleanser 5
* Turnover
* Collagen Shots Anti-Ageing Drink
* Lycogel Breathable Camouflage
* Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

There are so many Skin Care Products at the clinic and I always tailor the Skin Care to the individual Skin needs and prescribe accordingly. Our Skin Care is Medical and can only be prescribed by Medical Professionals. These brands cannot be found in Pharmacies, in Beauty Salons on the High Street and won't do the same for your Skin as over the counter products.

We also have a dedicated Obagi Medical Doctor at the clinic as well as a Cosmetic Doctor so, between the 3 of us we will get your Skin looking flawless!

For further details on any Skin Care Product or treatments available at the clinic, check out our website at www.claudiamcgloinclinic.com or call 071 9140728 to book a Skin Consultation.

Day 3 & 4 Post Chemical Peel

Well I am putting these days together as they are similar.

Yesterday Day 3 - I woke up peeling :) It is just like peeling after a sunburn. It's not painful and once you moisturise all is ok! I applied a small amount of concealer and off I went about my daily business!

Today Day 4 - I am peeling more :) I am actually getting really excited pulling of the skin! Sad yes but that's me! Cannot wait to reveal the healthy, glowing super soft new skin underneath!

Now I will point out that at NO point during this treatment did I EVER look like Samantha did in the episode of Sex and the City! The pics I have taken throughout these past 4 days will show this!

Throughout these past 4 days, I have carried on as normal with my daily routine. I have been out and about and no-one has noticed the peeling or the shedding skin! It's the norm with us Irish in the summer isn't it?! lol

That's the beauty about this treatment. There is NO down time and no-one will know what you have had done. You just wait for the compliments about your glowing skin :)

Question is - will I have another treatment?

Answer is - YES definitely I will :)

Post Chemical Peel Day 2

First of all I'm going to say that last night I did get a comment that my skin was looking good! WOO HOO! This is of course BEFORE the peeling has started!

Now I did mention in my previous blog Post Chemical Peel Day 1, that I was using the recommended concealer! I have a confession to make - I didn't use that one but a similar make up! All in the way of research for my clients!

I was just coming to the 24 hour post Chemical Peel stage and I tried this different brand just to see what would happen. I did experience a bit of tingling on my cheeks and I'm sure this was due to the ingredients in the produce which may have been reacting to the peel! Fear not my lovelies as it didn't last and I still looked good! I just wanted to see what would happen but you definitely should NOT get your face wet for the first 24 hours post Chemical Peel.

Now I woke up this morning and my skin was feeling slightly tigher and drier. This is a sure sign that the peel is working and I have been waiting for the skin to peel and low and behold as I am writing this - I AM PEELING!!!! Woo Hoo!!

It's starting on my chin and I don't think it will be long before I shed the rest of my skin! I'm so excited now I can't wait to peel it off and reveal my glowing, healthy skin underneath!

As previously said, I have taken pics at the different stages and once all is complete I will post these with full descriptions and will be available to see on my Facebook page, Claudia McGloin Clinic page and my website www.claudiamcgloinclinic.com

Will update you all as the peeling progresses! So excited! :)

Post Chemical Peel Day 1

Well I woke up this morning and my skin was feeling slightly taut. A bit like it does if you have experienced a slight sunburn. Now I have fair skin and I know what that really bad sunburn feels like but this was not bad at all. My skin felt a little tight but was smoother in appearance. The redness was gone too! I applied some cream that is recommended for use after a Chemical Peel and my skin felt fresh and I have to say it did look good.

Throughout the day, I noticed that my skin was feeling slightly drier than usual and of course I didn't have any of my lotions, potions or make up on! I just kept applying the cream and my face felt and looked good! I didn't wash my face which is extremely important as this and the other lotions and potions can interfere with the peel.

Now I know by looking at my face that the Chemical Peel is working and I won't see results for another couple of days until the skin starts to peel but it definitely feels better already! :)

I've been out and about today and I look as though I normally would. There are no tell tale signs that I have had a Chemical Peel which is what we want. We just want comments of 'You are looking fresh and youthful'!

I am out tonight and I have opted to apply some concealer. Not because I need to cover up but because I want to wear some. If I am being honest with you guys, I never go out with make up! LOL.The concealer I have chosen is light and will allow my skin to breathe through the peel. It comes recommended after a peel and is medical.

Watch this space to see if anyone notices any differences.......

Chemical Peel

Well my lovelys, I have given myself a Chemical Peel all in the name of research for my clients! My philosophy at the Claudia McGloin Clinic is to ensure that only the best quality and highest standards of treatments are offered to my clients. I won't recommend or advocate treatments that have not been tried or tested by myself. I need to have the confidence in what I offer to you!

Claudia McGloin Clinic thrives on Clinical Excellence and as a HUGE advocate of Patient Safety, I will strive to undertake the best clinical standards in the Claudia McGloin Clinic. My undertaking of these treatments is to show my clients that 'LESS is MORE' and that you do not need to have major re constructive cosmetic treatments done but simply just to enhance your beauty!

Firstly, I seriously recommend that you do NOT try any of these treatments at home! As a medical professional, I have done this in the strictest sterile clinical setting in the Claudia McGloin Clinic. These products are to be used by medical professionals only and I am simply doing this so I can give you a step by step account of how it feels and what to expect - something I that think is unique to my clinic.

Secondly, by giving you a thorough insight into these treatments, you can be confident that I know exactly what I'm talking about and can take you through it step by step so you know what to expect. You won't come to the clinic with any pre-conceived ideas and you will be well informed before you consent to treatment.

So, what was it like?

Well I have to say it did feel rather odd doing this to myself as I wasn't as relaxed as my clients would be - not meaning I was nervous but I was standing and squatting while giving myself the treatment! My clients are lying relaxed on a couch in the comforts of a soothing, relaxing environment. This aside, I am glad that I did this...

Once the chemical liquid was applied to the skin, it did sting and in my case it did burn a bit BUT I have a trick up my sleeve to soothe this - the trusty hand held fan! It cooled down my skin immediately and allowed me to continue. The stinging doesn't last long and once the neutraliser is applied it stops it completely. The treatment is painless. I can only say that the stinging is like a sunburn! And lets face it my lovelys we have all experienced that and have lived to tell the tale!

My skin did go red but it wasn't very red as in OMG what have you been doing! The beauty of these treatments is there is no down time and you can carry on with your day and evening ALTHOUGH you cannot touch your face and you cannot put creams, lotions and potions on or even wash your face for 24 hours!

Once I finished the treatment I felt fine and carried on as normal.

More to follow as the days go on and of course the pics! Cx
