Rosacea - The Curse of the Celts!

Rosacea is a hot topic at the moment as more and more people are being diagnosed with this Chronic Skin Condition. I have seen several patients in my clinic recently who have Rosacea but some of these didn't even know that they had it! I too have Rosacea and it did come as a bit of a shock especially now as I have started to look after my Skin. It started to develop over the past few months at the age of 37 which is the age it normally develops - between 30-50. As of late, I am noticing it more and more now! For me, it started off when I would have a sip of red wine. My face would become very flushed and hot! I thought it the wine being so warm and heavy as opposed to white wine being the opposite and didn't pass any heed of it. It was my mother that pointed it out to me one evening after I had barely taken a sip of wine. She said that my face was so red it looked like I was on fire! I was wearing make up as well so, I did think oh heck!

I have also noticed that when I get out of the shower in the mornings that my face is also very red and I can clearly see the tell tale mask of Rosacea redness around my cheeks and tip of my nose!

I have to admit, as a teenager I was never very good at looking after my Skin. I think if I was being good I may have used soap and water to clean my face but I remember days where I would just use water if I even bothered! This may sound like it wasn't bad especially not piling on a load of chemicals onto my face but the problem was MAKE UP! I used to wear a lot of it but I never took it off! Naughty I know but then I am a Nurse! Well that's my excuse now but I'm not sure what it was back then!

Consultations at the Claudia McGloin Clinic

The Claudia McGloin Clinic in keeping up to date with Patient Safety, Best Practice, Legal and Ethical issues ensures that every Patient/Client who attends the Claudia McGloin Clinic will have a Face to Face Consultation prior to any treatment. This is a necessity as the clinic is a Medical Aesthetic Clinic.

Consultations are required to ensure that the Patient/Client is fully informed about the treatment that they are looking to have so that they can make an informed Consent. From a Medical point a Consultation is vital to ensure that the Patient/Client is suitable for the treatment and that it is Safe to proceed.

Even Patients/Clients looking to have Skin Care need to have a Consultation to ensure that the correct products are Prescribed for their Skin Type and Skin Condition.

Some of the Procedures at the clinic will require a 'Skin Test' and this will be done prior to the treatment being carried out to ensure that there are no allergic or adverse reactions from the products used.

Following a Consultation at the clinic, a second appointment will be made for treatment which will be carried out on a different day. This gives the Patient/Client a chance to go over the information and leaflets given at the Consultation and also gives time to ask further questions and to do their research into the treatment they are to have.

Consultations costs €30 and are carried out by an Experienced Medical Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner.

Must have Nail Varnish Remover!!!

I am a sucker for beauty products just like the next person and I love trying them out just to see if they do exactly what they say on the tin!!! Some products I love while others I think are crap but this month I have discovered Nails Inc Express Nail Varnish and I think it is absolutely AMAZING!!!

I am a HUGE fan of Nails Inc and have enough varnishes and accessories to open up my own store!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Nail Varnish purely because I am not great at painting my own nails but with this product it seems to sort itself out neatly once painted on the nail!!! AND if I smudge it, I have a Nails Inc Corrector Pen to rectify the situation once the nails are dry!!!

Being a nurse and having to wash my hands endlessly and use alcohol gel, my varnish can chip. While at times I can repaint and fix it there are times when I just need to redo my nails and this always seems to be when I am on the go and haven't got the time.

I found Nails Inc Express Varnish was the product for me as I can use it discreetly on a train, on a plane or in the clinic. It doesn't smell like other acetone's do and better still it isn't a liquid!!! All you do is dip your finger into the sponge and hey presto the varnish is gone!!! Does it work on heavy varnishes I hear you say??? YES, I have tried it on my nails that have had 6 coats of varnish and in a matter of seconds the varnish was gone!!!

You can also repaint your nails immediately after removing so, go on give it a try. You won't be disappointed!!!

My ‘I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT’ Skin Care Product…

As a teenager, I wore very heavy make-up on a daily basis which comprised of a liquid and a loose powder. I would reapply both of these every couple of hours without removing what I had already put on!  I also committed the cardinal sin and would go to bed with my make-up still on! My Skin Care regime was very poor and would often consist of a baby wipe and at one point, I remember using baby lotion!

Over the years, I noticed that I had developed large Pores and my Skin was looking and feeling quite Dry and Dull. My make-up would not sit correctly and appeared to be ‘caked’.

I tried and tested several of the well-known over the counter brands of Skin Care products to help achieve perfect Skin but to no avail. I noticed that certain products would leave my Skin Red and Tingling as if I had poured Acid onto my Face! I soon realised that it was the alcohol content in some of these products and that my now sensitive Skin could no longer handle these brands.

At the time, packaging was probably the initial attraction due to TV adverts but I never checked out the ingredients to see what each of these products contained. Something now that I know is extremely important!

As I’ve gotten older, I have realised that a good Skin Care regime is paramount and now that I have developed Rosacea – The Curse of the Celts, I have become more determined to stick to my new Skin Care regime and use the products that are most suited to my Skin.
