Hands & Age Spots

Did you know that our Hands give away how old we really are??? We always look after our face with moisturiser and SPF but we always seem to miss out our Hands :(

People come to the Claudia McGloin Clinic with Age Spots on their Hands and they've no idea how they got them until we tell them - driving a car you are exposed from the suns rays coming through the windscreen, if you work in an office and have a desk by the window, you are exposed to the rays! Usually though, we just don't apply an SPF to our hands and the sun catches us all year round!

Help is at hand though because we can treat your Hands and get them back to tip top condition. We have several treatments and we can remove the Age Spots :)

Big lesson is to moisturise and apply SPF to your Hands daily. If you are washing dishes, wear rubber gloves and especially in winter protect your Hands with woolly gloves.

Do I really need to use a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in WINTER???

This is a question that I get asked a lot and when I say YES you do, I get funny looks and am told that it's wet, windy and cold outside! Yes, it is but you still need to protect your skin in winter the same as you do during spring and summer!

The truth is that even in winter, the suns rays are still coming through the dark clouds and you can still damage your skin by the UVA and UVB rays. Even when you are in the car, the rays are coming through the windscreen. How many of you have Sun Spots on the backs of your hands??? Your hands are also exposed to these rays while you are driving so, you should protect them with an SPF all year round!!!

I strongly recommend using an SPF 50 but definitely nothing less than an SPF 30. We love the Heliocare range of SPF's and they even have one that has a colour in it so, there is no need to apply make up!!! Happy Days!!!

So the bottom line is whether you are having a Medical Aesthetic or Cosmetic procedure, you are skiing or are out in about in winter, don't forget to apply the SPF...

Silk Pillow Cases for Anti-Ageing

The latest craze in Anti-Ageing and adored by celebs is Silk Pillow Cases! Not just for its soft and luxurious feel but it has been widely documented that sleeping on a Silk Pillow Case can help prevent Lines & Wrinkles and allow the Skin to Breathe better while you sleep!

There are so many Silk Pillow Cases on the market claiming that their brand is the best and that the SILK is Absolutely Fabulous so, I bought one just to try it out. I'm curious to see if it really does make a difference and if it will help with the Sleep Lines I frequently wake up to.

Anyway, the brand I bought claimed that I will Wake up Beautiful so, why wouldn't I give it a go? :)

So, is this a FACT or another FAD??

Well, having tried it for the first time last night, I can safely say that (A) I didn't sleep very well and (B) I didn't notice any difference with my 'BED HAIR' however, I did notice that I didn't have very many Sleep Lines on my face! I am not sure if this is due to the fact that I tossed and turned all night long and didn't stay in any one position long enough for the Sleep Lines to develop or the fact that I slept (when I did) on my back!

I will try it again tonight just to see what happens but at the moment the jury is still out on this one as to whether I would actively promote a Silk Pillow Case to my patients and clients for Anti-Ageing. After all, they are expensive and if they don't work then there is no point wasting money when you could just as easily buy a good Medical Skin Care Product that will have an effect on the Skin!
