Irritable Bowel Syndrome IBS

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS as it is more commonly known is a condition of the Digestive System. It can cause bouts of Stomach Cramps, Bloating, Diarrhoea and Constipation. While Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a common condition that affects both men and women, it can also be misdiagnosed! Irritable Bowel Syndrome can affect anyone but usually symptoms are noticed between the ages of 20-30. People who suffer with Irritable Bowel Syndrome can experience these symptoms in bouts which are often during times of stress and after eating certain foods. One major characteristic of Irritable Bowel Syndrome is fluctuating transit time. This is when food travels too quickly through the Digestive System. The undigested food particles can irritate the gut causing it to empty suddenly. Irritable Bowel Syndrome can also co-exist with Premenstrual Syndrome and has also been associated with Fibromyalgia.

What causes Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

The exact cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome is unknown but it has been linked to a sensitivity of the gut. There are however several triggers that can exacerbate the condition. Some of these are:
·
      Stress
·         Intestinal Parasites
·         Poor Digestion
·         Food Sensitivity or Food Intolerance
·         Feeling Emotionally Low
·         Being Physically Run Down
·         Bowel Infection
·         Candida
·         Disorders of the Nervous System
·         Drug Side Effects
·         Gynaecological Problems
·         Inadequate Digestive Enzymes
·         Nutrient Deficiencies
·         Poor Diet
·         Surgery

The Intestine is connected to the Brain. Signals go back and forth between the Bowel and Brain. These signals affect bowel function and symptoms. The nerves can become more active during stress causing the intestines to be more sensitive and contract more.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

The symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome can vary from person to person but most people will experience Diarrhoea, Constipation or both. The symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome tend to be worse after eating and tend to come and go in bouts. Many people will have a flare up of their symptoms which can last from 1 day up to 4 days.

The most common symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) are:
·
      Abdominal Pain and Cramping – which can be relieved following a bowel movement
·         A change in bowel habit - such as Diarrhoea, Constipation or Both
·         Bloating and Swelling of the Abdomen
·         Excessive Wind (Flatulence)
·         An urgent need to go to the toilet
·         A feeling that you need to open your bowels even if you have just been to the toilet
·         A feeling you have not fully emptied your bowels
·         Passing mucus from your back passage (bottom)
Due to the embarrassment, pain and discomfort of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, many people with the condition also have feelings of Depression and Anxiety.

Diagnosing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

There are no specific tests for Irritable Bowel Syndrome because it does not cause any obvious detectable abnormalities in your Digestive System. If you have the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome your GP will not always need to order blood tests to help diagnose you. However, in some cases they may recommend blood tests to rule out other conditions that cause similar symptoms such as an Infection or Coeliac Disease (a stomach condition caused by Gluten Intolerance). Irritable Bowel Syndrome is usually diagnosed by carrying out a physical examination and checking whether your symptoms match those typical of the condition.

Treatment for irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

The symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can often be reduced by changing your diet and lifestyle. In some cases, medication or psychological treatments may also be helpful. Colonic Hydrotherapy Treatments are also very good for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. They can also be combined with a Colonic Enema which has been tailored for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome to help calm the Colon and reduce the spasms.

The Claudia McGloin Clinic have treated several people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome both in the UK and Ireland with excellent results.

CLAUDIA McGLOIN

Location: Sligo, Ireland

Reason for becoming a therapist:
I had always been fascinated by Colonic Hydrotherapy and had never had the chance to have a treatment until I became unwell about 10 years ago. While I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic I picked up a parasite and was ill for several months. I was referred to my local NHS hospital and had to undergo a Sigmoidoscopy - not a pleasant experience!

I also developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as a result of picking up the parasite. I had tried several things including changes to my diet but nothing worked and I continued to suffer. Eventually, I had a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment and felt the best that I had in months! It was the only treatment that worked for me and I have never looked back. I then decided to train to become a Colonic Hydrotherapist so I could treat others who had suffered like I had. My only regret is that I didn't have Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment before undergoing an invasive procedure!

Success story:
I have loads of success stories involving patients who have suffered with IBS, Bloating and Constipation for years and even Skin Conditions such as Rosacea, Psoriasis and Eczema but the most successful story that springs to mind is a couple of patients who have Lyme Disease. (Lyme Disease is an infection caused by a spiral shaped bacterium called borrelia burgdorferi that is transmitted by a bite from a tick carrying the bug. The infection is generally mild, affecting only the skin, but can sometimes be more severe, leading to more serious illness.)

After the first treatment, they felt so much better and by the time they had their course of 3 treatments, they felt amazing! It is such a joy to watch people leave my clinic feeling better after they have suffered for years! I am a huge advocate of Colonics and firmly believe that they can work alongside Medical treatments. As a nurse, I feel my greatest success is convincing fellow medical professionals to think the same way!

Can you give one tip for a successful business:
One of my best tips has got to be, Be Yourself! If you are true to who you are and work hard, you will get there and have a successful business!

What do you do to relax:
My favourite way to relax is to visit a spa for some pampering! Sometimes a cheeky glass of vino will do the trick but a spa day is definitely the ultimate way to relax!

What you do to have fun:
When I'm not working, I love to spend time with my family and friends. There is always fun to be had!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time
I would love to be able to teach Colonic Hydrotherapy and have a few more clinics dedicated to Colonic Hydrotherapy and perhaps add in a few more Holistic treatments.

Stress, poor diet, alcohol and smoking can overload the body leaving you feeling like you've got a permanent hangover!

A Detox is a great way to help your body rid itself of toxins and to kick start a diet. What many people don't know is that if your Digestive System is not working as effectively as it should do, then your diet won't be effective either!

Did you know that 80% of ALL illnesses start in the Colon???

The Colon is the forgotten organ of the body but is one of the most important. Often referred to as the second brain, the Colon can store so much Toxins, Gases, Parasites, Bacteria and old, hardened Faeces. The average person can store between 5 and 20 LBS of faeces in their Colon while a person suffering with constipation can store up to 40 LBS.

Are you feeling or experiencing any of the following?

* Bloating
* Constipation
* Lethargy
* Weight Gain
* Flatulence
* Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
* Back Ache
* Indigestion
* Candida
* Insomnia
* Body Odour
* Dark Under Eye Circles

* Colitis
* Diarrhoea
* Menstrual Pain
* Bad Breathe

If the answer is YES - then a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment is what you need!

Colonic Hydrotherapy is a natural and safe treatment. It is extremely beneficial to the body. It increases your energy level, aids weightloss, regulates your bowel movements and can improve your skin. It also helps to hydrate the body and will leave you feeling an overwhelming sense of well being.

It's a firm favourite with a lot of celebrities and is the first step towards Optimum Health. A course of 3 treatments is highly recommended with a Herbal Colonic Implant.

Why Colonics?

I've been asked several times about why I started doing Colonic Hydrotherapy and if I have ever had any treatments myself and if I really found them beneficial??

The answer to that is YES, I have had several Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments and YES they are extremely beneficial. They have really worked for me and helped me hugely. While there are still some sceptical people out there about this treatment, all I can say is - Come and have a treatment with ME! I will prove to you that these treatments really are beneficial to the body and more importantly that they do work.

I have treated several patients with various chronic illnesses and following a few treatments they were feeling much better than they had in a long time. I am currently researching some illnesses and Colonic Hydrotherapy and am currently writing a book on Colonic Hydrotherapy so, I will share more about the research in the book.

Here is my story:-

8 years ago I went to the Dominican Republic for a 2 week all inclusive holiday. The resort was a gorgeous 4* resort BUT there was an infestation of flies. The staff didn't do enough to stop the pests getting onto food, drinks and guests! There was a BBQ one evening and they were serving lobsters...Well you couldn't see the lobsters with all the flies! I do have pictures of this but I don't think anyone wants to see them! It is gross!

After a couple of days at the resort, I started to become unwell. I suffered diarrhoea, was nauseous and felt very drained. I couldn't venture too far from the pool as I was constantly running to the loo. I would only use the bathroom in my room - out of courtesy to other guests plus the public loos were awful! Thankfully, my room was near the pool! By the second week I was also experiencing headaches and was getting much worse. I was told by the holiday rep that I was OK as I could look after myself seeing as I was a nurse! Charming!

The rest of the holiday was pretty much the same - feeling awful and running to the loo all the time! Other guests were reporting the same ailments but nothing was done at the resort regarding the infest!

When I returned to the UK, I still wasn't well and I went to see my GP. He refused to send me to The Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London as I suspected that I had picked up a parasite. I couldn't eat certain foods as my stomach was now crippling me! I even asked about sending me to see a food specialist just in case I had a severe food allergy. He told me I was wasting my money and he wouldn't refer me. I had to basically wait and see it it would subside.

It did settle but after a few weeks the symptoms re occurred. This would happen on and off for months. This was a definite sign that I had picked up a parasite and that it was lying dormant for a time in the colon and would then awaken and cause havoc! I was so frustrated with my GP and I remember going back to see him after about a few months and saying that my cousin has Colorectal Cancer and now had a colostomy and I need to be seen by a specialist! This spurred him into sending a referral to the General Surgeons.

At the time of my appointment, I was turning 30. I was having a Flexisigmoidoscopy to see what was going on in the Colon. The procedure went ok although it was painful - there was an SHO doing the procedure with the Consultant! I agreed that he could do it.......A couple of days later I was at work and experienced severe abdominal pain. My A&E colleagues feared that my bowel was perforated. I was so upset as I was due to fly to New York in a few hours time and was told that I wouldn't be going :(

After several blood tests and examinations, I was told that I could fly as they felt that I was stable enough and they didn't think anything would happen mid flight! The results came back from the Flexisigmoidoscopy and there was noting there. I was told I could potentially have Crohn's Disease and that I would need further investigations. NOT ON YOUR LIFE after my previous experience!

I self diagnosed myself with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and I knew that certain foods would trigger a relpase so I tried to avoid those foods but it was hard. I had read articles about Colonic Hydrotherapy and like most, was a bit nervous about it to begin with. After conducting lots of research, I knew that this was a beneficial treatment and I trained in Colonic Hydrotherapy.

The treatments have really helped me with my IBS and the parasite hasn't reared it's ugly head! Along with a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment a Parasite Cleanse Colonic Enema does the trick and I recommend that everyone have one of these on a yearly basis.

I honestly believe that if I had a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment all those years ago, I wouldn't have had to endure the trauma of the Flexisigmoidoscopy and the trauma of a suspected perforated bowel!

Colonic Enemas

Colonic Enemas are an important part of the Cleansing and Detox process to obtain optimum results from a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment. At the Claudia McGloin Clinic, we offer various Colonic Enemas and Implants.

One such Colonic Enema is a Coffee Enema. This Detoxifies the Liver and stimulates both the Gallbladder and Liver to remove all TOXINS from the body.

Colonic Enemas assist the Colon in emptying and also to HEAL the Colon. We have seen some amazing results so far with Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments as stand alone treatments in patients suffering from a variety of conditions and in addition we are starting to see even better results from adding the Colonic Enemas to the Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments. We are continuing to promote Colon Health by including these Colonic Enemas and Implants to our treatments in order to maintain optimum results Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments.

Furthermore, we can combine Colonic Enemas to suit the individual need of our patients.

Currently, we are researching the use of Colonic Hydrotherapy treatments in a couple of medical conditions and will release more information on this soon.
